How an unshaven hair transplant works
In a fully unshaven approach, individual donor hairs are trimmed selectively under the covering layers of your existing hair, extracted with standard FUE, and implanted between your existing hairs without shaving the recipient area. The surrounding hair conceals both the donor and recipient zones from day one.
Because each graft has to be isolated under full-length hair, unshaven sessions are slower and more demanding than shaven FUE. That makes them best suited to small and medium treatments — hairline refinement, temples, modest density work — typically up to around 1,500–2,000 grafts per session.
Who no-shave surgery suits — and its honest limits
Unshaven transplants are ideal if you are in a client-facing role, want to keep the treatment private, or simply do not want to wait months for your hair to grow back. They are also the standard approach for most women, who rarely wish to shave.
The limits matter too: very large areas are usually impractical unshaven, sessions cost more per graft because they take longer, and not every starting point qualifies. Graft survival is comparable when the technique is performed carefully by an experienced team. The trade-offs are session size and time, not quality: unshaven work is slower, so very large plans are usually split or done with partial shaving.
How many grafts are possible without shaving?
As a guide, up to around 1,500–2,000 grafts per unshaven session depending on your hair length, density and the zones involved. Larger requirements are usually staged or combined with a discreet partial shave hidden under longer hair.
Will people be able to tell I had surgery?
That is the point of the approach: your existing hair covers the donor and recipient areas immediately. Mild redness can show through very short or thin hair for a few days, but most patients are socially presentable straight away.
